As promised today I’m finally here with my Venice Travel Guide for you guys. My first time in Venice was last October and it was just a day trip but this time we spent nearly two days in Venice. If you’re planning a trip to Venice maybe some of my tips will help you. (btw you can find my look from this post here.)
Arrival
We stayed at the Chiara Lodge in Mestre, which is 10 minutes away from the city of Venice. The hotel was really nice and the stuff was so kind and friendly. But I’d recommend you to stay in the city of Venice anyway because otherwise you always have to take the bus or the train back to the hotel and that’s really stressful. Next time we will definitely take a hotel which is in the city.
After our arrival the hotel stuff told us how to get to Venice and which option is the best. He also told us what we have to see in Venice and also how to get to Burano and Murano. He was really cool and helpful. Btw I’ll tell you more about Burano and how to get there in my Burano Travel Diary.
After that we got 48h- tickets for the public transportation. With these tickets you can take the bus to Venice. It also includes the water buses in Venice and also the water bus to Burano and Murano which is great. So if you’re planning to take the water bus I’d highly recommend you to get one of these tickets.
We took the bus to Venice and on the other side of the Ponte della Libertà, which connects the main land of Venice with the city of Venice, you arrive at Piazzale Roma. It’s only a 10 minute drive, which is really good. The Piazzale Roma is the place where you have to park your car because the city of Venice is a car-free space.
Day 1 – must see spots, where to eat & my highlight of the day
From the Piazzale Roma you just have to cross a bridge and then you are already in the middle of Venice and the canals. After a little stroll around the streets we had lunch at Al Conte Pescaor and it was just delicious. You can also sit outside which is great and not so common in Venice. It’s not simple to find a place where you can sit outside.
After our lunch we went to Piazza San Marco. The Piazza San Marco is the biggest square in Venice and there you’ll find most of the sights. The Doge’s Palace, the Procuratie, the Basilica San Marco and also the St. Mark’s Campanile which is the bell tower. You can sit in one of the cafes on the square and drink an Aperol or an Espresso and enjoy the view. But you have to be aware that these cafes are quite expensive.
We obviously shot some pictures there and afterwards we went straight to Fondaco dei Tedeschi. The FdT is a Department Store with lots of luxury brands like Fendi, Gucci, Valentino, Aquazzura and Co. But what amazed me more was the amazing architecture of the building. It’s so pretty and unique. The FdT also has a rooftop terrace where you have a breathtaking view over the city and the grand canal. This was definitely my highlight of the trip. Glittery water, beautiful buildings and the gondola. Just perfect! The FdT is at the foot of the Rialto Bridge. So it’s really easy to find.
Afterwards we went to see the Hand Sculpture which you may have seen on Instagram already. This sculpture is called “Support” and it’s an artwork by the artist Lorenzo Quinn. It highlights climate change and the two giant white hands support the Ca’Sagredo that risks sinking due to a changing climate.
Dinner Spot
During the afternoon we were strolling around the city and the canals of Venice and then we had dinner at Ristorante Principessa. The food was delicious (see here), the prices were ok and the stuff was really kind. Then we took the Vapuretto, the water bus, back to Piazzale Roma where we took the bus back to our hotel in Mestre.
Day 2
We spent our second day in Burano. In the evening we went back to Venice and had dinner in a restaurant near the Rialto Bridge. We didn’t like the restaurant at all. The food wasn’t that good and the stuff was super unfriendly. Therefore I can’t recommend this restaurant. But what I can recommend you is to see Venice by night. The sunset is amazing as well but I really loved the city when it got dark and all you can see were the lights and the sparkling water. The view from the Rialto Bridge was really worth seeing it.
And that’s the end of my Venice Trip. I never thought that I’d love this city as much as I do know. As you may already know I love Italy and it’s for sure my favorite country. Here you can see all the Italian cities I’ve already been to. Venice, it was a pleasure and I’ll come back for sure!
