Goldener Ochs welcomes guests since 1791 in the imperial city Bad Ischl. The four-star-hotel is located directly at the riverside and has a breathtaking view of the Old Town and the promenade. The hotel has a great location, they serve tasty regional food, have a beautiful Spa area with an indoor pool, beautiful rooms, and super nice hosts. It’s a traditional hotel with a modern vibe which makes the hotel so charming.
Bad Ischl is a city in Upper Austria, and it’s located at the Traun River in the centre of the Salzkammergut region. Ischl is also called imperial city because it’s home to the Kaiservilla, which was the summer residence of Emperor Franz Joseph I and Empress Elisabeth (Sisi). Another great fact is that in 2024, Bad Ischl will be the European Capital of Culture. I’ll share a detailed “Salzkammergut Travel Guide” in the next few weeks where I’ll tell you more about the city.
Hotel Goldener Ochs Bad Ischl
x Rooms
We stayed in the Juniorsuite-Premium Traunvilla, which has a breathtaking view over Bad Ischl Old Town.
The Hotel Goldener Ochs has a “Stammhaus” where you can find the front desk, restaurant, bar, wellness area and some of the rooms and the “Traunvilla”. The Traunvilla is newly built, and it’s directly located at the Traun River.
The room is very spacious and bright. The interior makes it very cozy and the energy is just great. I really loved the interior. It’s a great mix of traditional and modern pieces. The Premium Junior Suite has a balcony with a view of the colorful buildings of the Old Town. The bathroom is also very spacious. The room also has a tee station, hairdryer, comfy seating area and you’ll find a tote bag with bathrobes in your room, which is perfect for the wellness area.
You can find more information about the rooms and the prices here.
x Breakfast
A big breakfast buffet is included in the price. Fresh bread and pastry, a wide selection of cold cuts and cheese, jams, honeycomb, granola and cereals (they also had almond and soy milk which was great) and much more.
x Lunch & Dinner
Lunch & Dinner are not included in the price but as a hotel guest you get 10% off in the restaurant. At Lunchtime the restaurant is opened daily (except Wednesday and Thursday) from 11:30 to 14:00 and at dinner time it’s opened daily from 17:00 to 21:00.
They offer a daily menu, or you can select from the à la carte menu. All dishes are freshly made so they can change some ingredients in case you have any food intolerance.
My favorite is the Wiener Schnitzel (veal) and I also like the Venison Ragout with “dumplings” and cranberry sauce. Order the “Kaiserschmarren” with plum sauce as a desserts and drink a “Schnapps” to digest all the food!
x Arthur Schnitzler Bar
The newest part of the hotel is the Arthur Schnitzler Bar which is named after the famous writer Arthur Schnitzler because he used to love Bad Ischl. The Bar is open for hotel and à la carte guests from 14:30 to 24:00.
You’ll find regional roasted coffee, lemonades, homemade pastry, and delicious cocktails. The Bar was my favorite. The interior is stunning, the drinks are great, and the vibe is on point!
x Wellness
The wellness area (exclusive to hotel guests) is also a great part of the Goldener Ochs. Fitness and wellness area with an indoor pool, sauna, steam bath, infrared cabins, sun terrace and garden are included in the price, and they are open from 7:30 to 21:00. They also offer some massages.
We had a swim in the indoor pool and afterwards we throw on our cozy bathrobes and had a rest in the relaxation room which was amazing. During summer you can also enjoy the sun and beautiful weather in the garden.
The Schweiger Family made a feel-good hotel in the middle of the imperial town, and they do their best to make you feel homy and happy in the Goldener Ochs. The stuff was very friendly, and we had the best time ever at the Hotel Goldener Ochs in Bad Ischl. If you are planning a vacation in Bad Ischl or in the Salzkammergut this hotel is the place to go.
